Special Top of the Tree
It is possible in the TOC to override the default behavior of showing 2 levels up. By setting a specific top of the tree in the $currentWPDoc variable the TOC will start from there. The $bcDocumentList should be set to the documents that are on the path of the top of the tree to the currently shown document.
